Students performed short puppet plays for parents and their kindergarten Little Buddies. Working in small groups in their Theatre Arts class, students had to describe a problem one of their puppet characters was having and then write a script about how it was solved.

It has become an Island School tradition for the seniors and their families to gather the Saturday before graduation for the Headmaster's Senior Brunch. Held at Gaylord's last weekend, this gathering marked an important milestone in the lives of the Class of 2016. There were brief words of welcome by Shannon Graves, followed by an acknowledgement by the president of the Island School Alumni Association, Peter King. After the seniors sang the doxology in Hawaiian, led by Rose Alfiler, brunch was served.
Afterwards, both the senior women and senior men danced their May Day hulas for their parents.
We are proud to announce that the Island School Class of 2016 has provided 3216 hours of community service in their four years of high school!

Island School students are completing an exciting visual arts project. High school students are painting mismatched wooden chairs in their art classroom, designing each chair after a famous painting from art history. After receiving donations of over twenty wooden chairs from thrift shops, garage sales, and even from the local Starbucks, students began sanding and applying primer to their adopted chairs. Then they each painted their chair with a design inspired by the iconic image they selected. So far, seven chairs have been completed, including chairs inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night, Claude Monet’s Water Lilies, Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, and Hokusai’s The Great Wave.
Penny Nichols plans on this becoming a tradition for our high school juniors and seniors, who will leave these painted chairs in the art room as a kind of artistic legacy.

Island School’s Art Department is looking for more wooden chairs and would gladly accept any donations. Chairs should be solid wood. They may be in need of refinishing, but should be structurally sound. To donate chairs, please contact Penny at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Opportunities for families to host international exchange students next year are being offered. There are four high school students from Germany, two boys and two girls, waiting for families to adopt them for the next school year. Hosting international students is a wonderful cultural experience for the entire family. Please contact Sean Magoun if you are interested. email@example.com.
