Science Students Learn About Vultures

Mr. Bharathi dasan, who was on O'ahu for the International Wold Conservation Congress, visited two of Traci Sullivan's biology classes on Friday. Arranged by Board member, parent and I.S. alumnus Peter King Mr. Bharathi dasan presented a fascinating slide show about his work in conservation of the vulture. Students learned about the bad reputation often received by vultures and hence the lack of interest in their preservation. However, in the Tamil state of India, Mr. Bharathi dasan has been studying the effects of a disease infecting their populations, and the resulting damage to the surrounding ecosystem. He is one of 15 recipients of this yearʻs Hotspot Hero Awards, given by the Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund (CEPF) for his organizationʻs work with vulture conservation.
