Kilinoe Oliveira and Thatcher Magoun Win Gold in Shanhai, China!

Kilinoe Oliveira dn Thatcher Magoun with their coach, Sue Macklin.
Congratulations to rising 6th graders Kilinoe Oliveira and Thatcher Magoun, who received Gold Medals this week at Global Natural History Day in Shanghai, China!

Thatcher and Kilinoe traveled to China with their parents and their coach, Sue Macklin, for this international children's event. (Read more about it below.)

With Ms. Sue's help, Kili and Thatcher chose as their topic the making of salt on Kaua‘i. Kumu Kauka taught them a chant and dance that told the story and history of salt making. Kili danced in front of the backdrop they had painted, while Thatcher explained the meaning of the motions. They painted their own backdrop for the presentation. The judges were so impressed, they were asked to perform again at a special dinner the following night.
