News From the Music Dept.

Alaka‘i Chorus Auditions are Underway

It's time again for chorus auditions! Auditions are required for just one of the Island School choruses, the Island School Alaka'i Chorus.

This year-long advanced vocal class and performing ensemble is designed for earnest, hard working, and dedicated student musicians who desire to develop their appreciation and understanding of music through rehearsal and performance. This select high school choral ensemble has limited enrollment based upon the need for specific voice parts. Students in this ensemble are eligible to attend the annual all-state choral festival.

Interested students should arrange an audition with Mr. Steinbacher. Auditions continue until May 27. Contact Mr. Steinbacher at philip@ischool.org for details.

Island School Launches Music Honor Society

Mr. Steinbacher is currently in the process of inaugurating an Island School chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Tri-M is a program of the National Association for Music Education, focusing on creating future leaders in music education and music advocacy and is the only international music honor society for high school students. The next step in creating a chapter is to determine student interest. A brief informational meeting will be held in the Music Room at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4. This is an informal meeting to determine student interest, and all current 8-11th grade students are invited to attend. Commitments will not be required at this time (but treats will be served!). Additional information about Tri-M is available at http://www.nafme.org/programs/tri-m-music-honor-society/. Contact Mr. Steinbacher at philip@ischool.org with questions.
