7th Graders Learn About Land Conservation

Angela Anderson from HILT (Hawaiian Islands Land Trust) met last week with all 7th grade students for a short presentation as part of their Life Science unit on Living Resources: Kaua‘i Our Home. The objective is to have students understand place and make a connection with the land. At the end of this unit, students will have the option to support HILT’s land conservation work, through HILT’s Young Friends Membership Program.Community members will visit the class this month to continue the unit:

  • Monday May 2nd: Peter King, GIS Technology for habitat conservation and community planning; ArcGIS Online
  • Tuesday May 3rd: Scott Bacon, Malama Na Apapa Marine Debris presentation
  • Wednesday May 4th: Angela Anderson, HILT (Hawaiian Islands Land Trust) Conservation Law, Land Trust Issues, Properties and easements (balance between utilization and preservation)
  • Tuesday May 10th: Rachel Smith, KISC (Kaua‘i Invasive Species Committee); Invasive Species/Agricultural AwarenesOn Tuesday May 17th, students will take a field trip to Kahili Beach (aka Rock Quarry) to do site work including invasive species removal.
