PA Meeting Tuesday.

The Island School Parent Association meets next Tuesday, March 3rd at 1:00pm in the teachers’ workroom. All parents are invited!

MS Tech Class Tour Tech Center at KCC

The Middle School Computer Science Class toured the Daniel Inouye Technology Center at KCC. They visited the electronics lab where they teach students how to build computers, the optics lab where they learn about different lasers, and the fabrication lab where they build pieces to assemble the computers. The students participated in an activity where they added parts (RAM and Disk Drive) to a "broken" computer to make it work.

Second Graders at Camp Naue

Senior Update

Congratulations to Moeko Fukada, who was accepted at Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California. Madison Moore has been accepted at University of Tennessee: Knoxville, and to California State University Long Beach.

Taking the 5:15 North Shore Van Requires Advanced Sign-Up

Students who plan on taking the late afternoon van to the north shore must sign up by 2:00 p.m. on the day they plan on riding.  This is because of limited seating. Those not signed up may ride on a space-available basis. Please note that failure to sign up could result in denial of service.

The van runs Monday-Thursday. There is no service on Fridays.

Students must be pre-registered for school bus service  in order to participate. Additional fees may apply.

Time to Sign Up For Tri-3 Lunch Program

We have gotten wonderful feedback (feed-back ... get it?) from the students on the new prepared-on-the-premises lunches that are coming out of our kitchen! Dean and Vanesha are doing a great job.

Lunch plan options for the 3rd trimester are:

Hot Meal with Salad Bar and Pizza Friday for 5 days a week;

Hot Meal Only and Pizza Friday for 5 days a week (NO Salad Bar);

Salad Bar Only for 5 days a week (NO Pizza Friday);

Pizza Friday Only with Salad Bar.

If you want your child(ren) to join the program simply contact the front office to make a payment or go on-line and pay by Friday, March 6, 2015.

Day 3 on the Big Island!

Here are our adventurous 5th graders on their Big Island Trip. What a great group! Thanks, Shantelle, for keeping these photos coming!

Middle School Friday Night Live Event Feb. 27

Middle School parents received an email announcing an evening social event planned for our middle school students in the Frear Center on Friday, February 27th from 7:00-9:30pm. Each Island School student may invite two middle school guests from another school. The evening will include dodge ball, ping pong, music, video games and basketball.

All students are expected to follow the conduct and dress code rules as stated in the 2014­-2015 Island School Student Parent Handbook. Attendees should arrive at the dance no later than 7:15 pm and picked up no later than 9:45 pm. Earlier pick­up is permitted, but when students leave they will not be allowed back onto the premises.

Permission forms were attached to the email. Signatures of students, parents and guests are required and should be turned in with $10 for each attendee ASAP. Contact Joe Corbo if you have any questions:

Middle School Breakfast Bond Friday

A Hui Breakfast Bond will take place for middle school students this week Friday February 27th during their normal Morning Meeting and break time from 9:30-10:00am. Middle School Student Council has planned this as a celebration for the approach of the end of 2nd trimester.

Hui advisers have asked some of their students to bring small portions of snack foods or drinks to share with their Hui. Individuals who do not bring in items this time will have an opportunity to provide at another time.

Examples of individual dishes that have been shared are juices, fruits, eggs, sausage, crackers & cheese/peanut-butter, bran muffins, bagels,etc.

Food items should be brought to the designated areas agreed upon with their Hui advisers. Please do not drop food off in the Office.

Some students will be absent on Friday during Breakfast Bond because of a field trip with Ms. Janet.

Ask your son or daughter if he or she has agreed to bring a breakfast item for this event. Mahalo for your kokua.

Help Needed Finding Rental in Lihu‘e!

An Island School family is looking for a place to rent, starting mid-to late March. They prefer a 3 bed, 2 bath but would settle for a 2 bed, 2 bath and must allow pets. Welcome Alice April to MS Drama

Alice April has joined our faculty as the teacher of our Middle School drama class. With both a BA and an MA from Oregon State University,
she has extensive experience as an actor, dancer (Flamenco, modern, tap, jazz and ballet), athlete (track and yoga), playwright, and drama teacher.

Some of our students remember her from the HCT Summer Stars program, where she taught one of the morning classes.

She has taken the class over from Jonathan Barron, who had to relocate to the Mainland.

Last week, our PK students harvested the Kale in their garden and presented it to Vaneesha and Mr. Dean in the kitchen.

5th Grade Arrive at Big Island

Cindy Wortmann and her 5th grade class left Kaua‘i very early this morning and are spending the first of five days on the Big Island. They have a full itinerary planned on what will be one of the highlights of their Island School experience!
