I.S. Students Among Jr. Lifeguard Champions

Three Island School students were among the more than 200 junior lifeguards who  competed in the State of Hawai’i Junior Lifeguard Championships on Aug. 1 at Hapuna Beach on Hawai‘i Island. Congratulations to Kenneth Niheu '18, Wailea Edwards '19 and James Pratt '19, who helped bring home the honors.

Teams were separated by county and participated in five different events: a 1,000-meter beach run, 200-meter swim, five-person paddle board relay, beach flag race, and the Iron Guard, which consists of a 500-meter beach run, 200-meter paddle board, and a 200-meter swim.

Kaua‘i took first place in the competition for the 12th year in a row, followed by O‘ahu.
