Poets Vie for Spot in State Finals

Poetry students in Ms. Street's and Mr. Barron's classes, and several others, will compete next Tuesday, February 3, after school in the Weinberg Gym. They will read poems aloud, in front of judges, in an effort to be chosen to represent Island School in the Poetry Out Loud Competition on O‘ahu, February 22.

Winners on the State level will receive $200 and an all-expenses-paid trip with an adult chaperone to Washington, DC, to compete in the National Finals. The state winner's school will receive a $500 stipend for the purchase of poetry books. The first runner-up in each state will receive $100, with $200 for his or her school library.
