A Colorful Day in Kindergarten!

Kindergartners celebrate Rainbow Grandparents' Day

Basketball Clinic during Fall Break - grades 5-12

Island School is trying to build a KIF basketball program. To help build skills, we are offering the following opportunity to boys and girls in grades 5-12:
Coach Dennis Agena from the Kalakaua Basketball Club will be on Kaua‘i for another youth basketball clinic during fall break, October 9-11, 2014 (Thursday through Saturday). The clinic will be held at the Bernice Hundley Gymnasium at Kapa‘a High School. As in the past, the clinic is open to students in the 5th through 12th grade with some experience in basketball. Cost is $25 per student, which includes refreshments (light lunch and drink) each day. Students must bring their own basketball, gym shoes and be dressed to play basketball.
Registration can be mailed in to the address on the form. Coach Agena's clinic is well worth the time. FYI - the Kaua‘i Bus will run a "Special" for the clinic from Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, stopping at Kukui Grove (First Hawaiian Bank) and Kapa‘a Neighborhood Center, and back. Cost is $1 per way for students, $2 for coaches/adults.
Registration forms are in the Office, or email Bill Suttell, and he will send one to you:

Art Day Workshop Teachers Needed

Art Day 2014 is Friday, October 24th. We already have sixteen wonderful workshops lined up. We only need seven more. In the primary group we still need two workshops. In the elementary group (third, fourth, and fifth grades) we still need one workshop.
If you or someone you know might be interested in filling these slots, please contact Penny Nichols (
Art Day is an all-school event. All students take several workshops taught by professional artists. Hundreds of pieces of art are created by our students in one morning! After lunch, students enjoy the Art Walk in the Elementary Courtyard, where their works are displayed. Street musicians and performers are stationed in key locations, providing entertainment and creating a lively atmosphere.

We are looking for jugglers, acrobats, drummers, musicians and dancers who might like to be a part of the Art Walk entertainment. Please contact Lynda Liesse if you have any suggestions (

Workshop teachers, volunteers and performers are all invited to the Artists' Luncheon that follows the workshops!

Kindergartners Prepare for Rainbow Grandparents' Day

We would like to borrow machines in good working condition - we promise to take good care of them! If you can lend your machine, please email, and plan to deliver it to her classroom by Monday, October 20. We will have volunteers from Kaua‘i Quilters Guild mentoring the students - so your machines will be in good hands.
