7th Girls PE Learn Water Survival Skills

Thursday, September 4th. the 7th grade girls went on a run/swim excursion to the YMCA. At the Y, the girls were met by Swim Kaua'i Aquatics head coach, Richard "Doc" Ludemann. Coach Doc has over 30 years of competitive swim coaching, including 12 years as Division 1 Coach at UCLA, Yale, and Sacred Heart Universities. Doc has trained numerous Olympic, NCAA qualifiers, scorers and champions throughout his coaching career. Coach Doc instructed the girls in water survival techniques. The girls learned that staying calm in the water is the key to surviving a mishap. Coach Doc taught the girls two floating techniques that can be used to survive a water stranding. The 7th grade girls were great students and mastered the survival floats with ease! Then they had a few relay races and a great time jumping off the high dive and flying down the water slide! They completed their excursion with an uphill run back to campus!

Junior Class Retreat - Quite the experience!

The Junior Class were kept very busy last week at their retreat. They went to Makanalani Farm in Kilauea, where they hiked around the  beautiful 132 acre property feeding and petting the donkeys and horses! They played a variety of fun games, watched movies, practiced the Island School Anthem and, of course, ate! It was a wonderful experience for teachers and students alike.
