Chemistry Students Learn About Sublimation and CO2

Mrs. Haverkortʻs chemistry class did an experiment with a bowl of dry ice. They observed sublimation, a phase change from solid to liquid without going through the liquid phase, and discussed how the gas carbon dioxide is denser than the atmosphere as it sinks to the floor. They also lit candles around the bowl and demonstrated how, when the carbon dioxide replaced the air, the candles had no more oxygen and went out.
