Mary Castelanelli Completes Ironman

Our HS math teacher, soccer coach and cross country coach, Mary Castelanelli, competed in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Mont Tremblant, Canada on September 7th. This event is by qualification only, and she qualified by placing 3rd in the 70.3 Ironman event on the Big Island back in June. One of her race goals for this year was to qualify for this event and so she was really happy when she did.

"It was an honor just to be there because of the incredible athletes I got to race along side, former Olympic gold medalists included!" she said.

A 70.3 Ironman consists of a 1.2 mile open water swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. Mary did the swim in 31 minutes, the bike in 2:46, and ran a 1:34 half-marathon. She placed 26th in her division, with a time of 4 hours 58 minutes

Congratulations, Mary! You are an inspiration.
